Oleg Luzhevsky, soldier of the Kyiv Region Territorial Defence Forces Oleg Luzhevsky from the town of Baryshchivka. On 24 February 2022, he volunteered, standing outside the military registration office at 9 a.m. Without any military training, he was accepted into the Kyiv Region Territorial Defence Forces, where he devoted all his energy to defending Ukraine. Unfortunately, on 10 December 2022, Oleg came under fire near Siversk. A bullet pierced his helmet and struck him in the head. He could not move his legs or his left arm, applying a bandage with only his right hand. Thanks to the quick evacuation and prompt assistance of a childhood friend, who was not afraid and risked his life to take Oleg to the medical station, his life was saved. After surgery in Dnipro, where a plate was inserted into his head, a long rehabilitation process began. Oleg spent four months at the Nika-Oberig rehabilitation centre in Kyiv, where he began to move his leg and arm again. However, later, during treatment in the hospital, he encountered difficulties: there was only one student doctor on three floors, whom Oleg had to teach what he himself had seen in other rehabilitation centres. After being discharged, Oleg used his own funds to go to a rehabilitation centre in Modrychi, where treatment cost 175,000 hryvnia per month. Here he received physical rehabilitation: mud treatments, exercises and swimming lessons. Oleg spent eight months in a wheelchair, but did not lose hope of recovery. Friends told Oleg about the Nodus rehabilitation centre. He was impressed by the quality of the equipment, which he had not seen in any of the centres where he had been treated. At Nodus, Oleg regained his lost walking patterns, as his previous rehabilitation had not been professional enough and he felt a constant threat of falling. Now he can run little by little. And that is a great achievement.
